To support the policy of combating alcoholism and promoting road safety, establishments selling takeaway alcohol are required to :

• to market chemical breathalyzers intended for use prior to driving and enabling the detection of alcohol concentration levels in exhaled air as provided for in Article R. 234-1 of the Highway Code.
• to display this official notice so that it is immediately visible to customers and in the immediate vicinity of each display offering alcoholic beverages

These obligations apply to establishments holding a Small Off-Premise Licence (3rd group drinks) and establishments holding an Off-Premise Licence (any other alcoholic beverage).

● Regulatory & legal framework:
Order of the Ministry of the Interior of March 30, 2021, concerning the terms of sale of devices for detecting alcohol intoxication in establishments selling off-premises beverages, pursuant to Article L. 3341-4 of the Public Health Code. The ministerial order specifies that the number of breathalyzers offered for sale must be, at a minimum and at all times, 25 for establishments selling beverages where the length of the display area offering alcoholic beverages exceeds 20 meters, and 10 for other establishments selling beverages.
