ASIGNAN ESTATE - JEFF CARREL

It was while travelling around Roussillon that Jeff Carrel and Sébastien Calduch discovered Ansignan, way over there at the other end of Occitanie.

The vineyards they were both looking for were there: goblet-trained vines on a hillside, small plots, and on top of that, a 1980s extravaganza, an entire hillside planted with Syrah in an unlikely spot in the middle of nowhere. Everything was about to be snapped up after 150 years of human passion.

Charmed by the place and its significance in the wine heritage, they decided to take over the vineyards and land, renaming the estate Domaine d'Ansignan. The estate's first vintage was released in 2016, DSM Vin d'altitude.

Grape varieties: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon / 30% Merlot

Tasting:

Nose: Expressive, with aromas of black fruit cream - blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, and sweet spices.

Palate: fine acidity, enveloped by a round, velvety, charming texture, notes of blackberry cream with toasted spices and vanilla.

Finish: invigorating, tannins clearly visible, harmonious, well-balanced.
