Branaire-Ducru Castle The 2015 vintage reveals itself in a dark robe with purplish highlights. Its spicy nose offers a full bouquet with aromas of black cherries and cocoa. The palate is elegant and smooth. The attack is subtly spicy , all tinged with some vegetal notes that give it a fresh touch .
It is a wine full of structure, power and finesse.
Château Branaire Ducru is a wine that is best enjoyed at around 15°C.
We recommend letting it decant for a few hours in a carafe before enjoying it.
2015 was generally a very good year in the Bordeaux region. Despite some slight variations, the Saint-Julien AOC was no exception. Flowering and the following months were very hot. Fortunately for veraison and harvest yields, the August rains came to the rescue.
The September rains diluted the grapes in some properties, and only good viticultural practices were able to remedy this.
The vineyard covers an area of 59 hectares. Its vines, in their golden age (approximately 35 years old), flourish in gravelly soil over a clay subsoil. It is located a stone's throw from the Gironde estuary and benefits from all its advantages.
- Hand-harvested grapes
- Traditional aging in oak barrels, 60% of which are new, for 16 to 20 months.
Before its long family history, the estate first came from the Beychevelle seigneury (see Château Beychevelle ).
In the 17th century, Jean-Baptiste Braneyre (who would later become Branaire) acquired the estate and passed it on to his daughter Marie.
The property remained in the family and Marie Braneyre 's grandchildren, Justin and Louis Duluc , commissioned the construction of a castle. This building would be named Château Branaire .
Thanks to this beautiful building and the quality of the wine produced on its land, the estate was classified as a 4th Grand Cru in 1855 , under the name Château Branaire-Duluc .
Upon the death of Louis Duluc , who had no children, the property passed into the hands of his nephew, Gustave Ducru .
Branaire-Ducru remained in the family until the 1920s.
After a significant lack of investment until the 1950s, subsequent owners did everything in their power to restore Château Branaire-Ducru to its former glory. Renovation of the winery, the château, the vineyard, and investment in a new vat room are just a few examples of their actions.
