AOP CORNAS CHAMPELROSE DOMAINE COURBIS 2021 75cl

AOP CORNAS CHAMPELROSE DOMAINE COURBIS 2021

  • Grape variety: 100% Syrah

  • Terroir: Located on the right bank of the Rhône, overlooking Valence, the Cornas terraces stand out as a great terroir. 2.5ha of very old vines planted in 1919, at the foot of the slopes, accompanied by a 2ha plot of vines about twenty years old.

  • Winemaking and aging: Recently built winery. Hand-harvested, destemmed grapes. Vinification in closed, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Frequent and careful pump-overs and punch-downs. Controlled fermentation temperature of 30-32°C, maximum color extraction. Fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks. Winemaking style suitable for aging. 16 months of aging in new barrels (15%), one-year-old barrels (30%), and two-year-old barrels (55%).

  • Tasting Notes: On tasting, the 2021 Cornas Champelrose displays a deep, intense red color, hinting at the concentration and richness of this wine. The nose is complex, revealing aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry, black cherry, and plum, along with spicy notes of licorice and black pepper. Subtle touches of flowers and aromatic herbs complete this refined bouquet. On the palate, this Cornas expresses its power and structure, with firm, velvety tannins that provide a sense of density and depth. The mouthfeel is ample and generous, with a lovely freshness that brings balance to the whole. The black fruit flavors are confirmed, accompanied by notes of cocoa, vanilla, and leather, adding further complexity to this wine.

  • Serving suggestions: Can be kept for at least 5 years, served at 15-16°C.

  • Food and Wine Pairing: The 2021 Cornas Champelrose from Domaine Courbis is a wine meant for aging; it can be enjoyed now but will reveal its full potential after a few years of bottle aging. It pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, dishes with sauces, game, and mature cheeses.
