CHÂTEAU CANTELAUDE-BORIE / DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU
In 1942, Francis Borie acquired Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. A tireless builder, the energetic wine merchant from Corrèze was also a passionate winemaker at Château Haut Batailley, a Grand Cru Classé in the neighboring commune of Pauillac. Loved and respected by all, Francis possessed a profound gentleness of spirit; generosity was one of his greatest qualities.
In 1959, Jean-Eugène, succeeding his father, undertook a meticulous restoration of the vineyard and cellars. Quickly abandoning the family business, he dedicated himself to the development and modernization of the estate.
His considerable efforts began to bear fruit in the second half of the 1950s when Ducru-Beaucaillou's reputation rose to the highest level in Bordeaux and has never been denied since.
Cantelaude, "sings the lark" in local dialect, is a toponymic indication describing the summit of a Médoc hill particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines.
