CHATEAU MONTROSE ST ESTEPHE AOC 2ND CC 2014 75 CL

Saint-Estèphe AOC – Second Growth Classified

Château Montrose is an icon of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, this estate is renowned for producing wines of great power, remarkable depth, and exceptional quality.

The Château Montrose estate has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. It owes its name to the presence of heather ("Montrose" means "heather hill" in English), which was abundant in this region during the Middle Ages. In 1855, the estate was classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé), a recognition of its potential and quality among the greatest wines of Bordeaux.

The Château Montrose vineyard covers approximately 95 hectares, benefiting from exceptional terroir. The soils are composed of deep gravel and clay, offering excellent water retention and ideal drainage for the vine roots. The grape varieties are primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 60%), which thrives particularly well in this terroir, contributing power, structure, and aging potential. Merlot (approximately 30%) and Cabernet Franc (approximately 10%) harmoniously complete the blend, adding roundness and aromatic complexity.

The grapes at Château Montrose are harvested by hand, with meticulous selection to ensure optimal fruit quality. Vinification is carried out with precision, using wooden and stainless steel vats for controlled fermentation. The wines are aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, a significant proportion of which are new, contributing to the wine's structure and complexity.

Château Montrose 2014 is a wine of rare power, representative of the exceptional 2014 vintage. Its color is a deep, intense ruby, revealing a complex and captivating aromatic bouquet. Aromas of black fruit, blackcurrant, and blackberry are present, along with hints of graphite, spice, and a subtle touch of oak. On the palate, the wine is powerful, with firm yet velvety tannins, a generous texture, and a long, lingering finish. This remarkable wine offers a perfect balance of richness, freshness, and intensity, and promises outstanding aging potential for decades to come.

Château Montrose embodies the very essence of great Saint-Estèphe wines, combining the strength of the terroir with unparalleled depth and elegance in its winemaking. Tasting it is a unique experience, reserved for connoisseurs of fine wines seeking excellence and the quintessence of Bordeaux wines.
