Description
Equiano is the world's first African and Caribbean rum. This aged, multi-award-winning rum is one of the world's best rums in the 8-12 year category, having won gold medals in all major international competitions.
Equiano is the result of a collaboration between two distilleries located on two different continents, creating something entirely new for this centuries-old craft. The spirit is a blend from one of Africa's finest distilleries, Gray's Distillery in Mauritius, and the world-renowned Bajan distillery, Foursquare.
By bringing together these two rum purists, Equiano is now a 100% natural rum, free of spices, additives, and added sugar. All its rich and deep flavors come from the old bourbon and cognac casks in which it underwent tropical maturation, making Equiano truly unique.
It is named after Olaudah Equiano, a freedom fighter who paved his way to liberation by selling rum. Equiano was one of the first African writers to have his work published, and his compelling memoirs were instrumental in the transatlantic slave trade law of 1807.
The Equiano Rum Co Foundation is proud to allocate 5% of its profits each year to local freedom and equality projects.

Tasting notes
Nose : From the first whiff, Equiano subtly delivers a tropical warmth. Initially rich, with notes of raisins and Scottish toffee, the nose then becomes particularly soft with hints of caramel, vanilla, and pastry aromas.
Palate : The palate offers all the natural sweetness of a rum aged in American white oak barrels that previously held bourbon. Aromas of soft caramel, raisins, and brown sugar quickly emerge. The overall balance is perfect, gently caressing the taste buds as you savor it.
Finish : The finish is complex and smooth with beautiful woody notes, a touch of anise and dried citrus (bitter orange peel, candied lemon).
