Originating from Peru , Millonario 15 Year Old Reserva Especial rum is produced in a distillery that is over a century old. Despite the great age of this production site, the Millonario brand only gained recognition in 2008-2009 when it was awarded prestigious international distinctions.
Millonario rum is an industrial rum made from sugarcane molasses grown on volcanic soil. Very old column stills of Scottish origin are used in the production of these Peruvian rums.
To create the Millonario 15 Year Old , the traditional Spanish Sherry aging methods are used: the well-known 'Solera' process. Applied here on four levels, the rum ages in American oak barrels, barrels that previously held Bourbon, and then barrels that held high-quality Sherry. This blend consists of rums aged for 12 to 20 years.
Of note is the refined braided straw casing that adorns the bottle: the work of local Peruvian artisans who use the same straw for Millonario Reserva Especial rum as that used to make the famous 'Panama' hats !
Colour : The coat of this 15-year-old is a beautiful deep amber colour with bronze highlights.
Nose : This rum expresses itself with richness and warmth on the nose. Dominant notes of prunes, caramel, tropical fruits, chestnut honey, with some subtle hints of hazelnuts and spices (cloves).
Palate : The palate of this 15-year-old Millionario offers a remarkably smooth attack, while maintaining a certain freshness. Against a backdrop of spicy notes, the fruitiness from the nose remains present, along with aromas of toffee, flambéed bananas, and candied fruit (fig). The overall impression is one of good roundness and harmonious notes. This 15-year-old Millionario rum expresses itself with elegance and charm.
Finish : The finish of this aged wine develops a beautifully long persistence, dominated by its mellow character and delightful spicy notes.
