Description
Crafted from Lacalome Red and Yellow Lady sugarcane varieties, this small batch of Renegade was aged in three different types of casks: French oak (17%), ex-bourbon barrels (60%), and new American oak (23%). With an annual angel's share of 8%, this expression has acquired, over two years, a truly remarkable complexity and maturity. Overflowing with naturalness, its aromatic and flavor profile also candidly reflects the youthful and vibrant character of its early years.
Tasting notes
Nose : Rich, heady. At once floral (dandelion), honeyed, medicinal (balm), and vanilla, the initial aroma is gradually enveloped by exquisite scents of gum arabic. With aeration, fresh sugarcane juice floods the entire aromatic spectrum with its milky (coconut) and exotic (pineapple, kiwi) notes. A hint of vetiver.
Appearance : Old gold.
Palate : Lively and elegant. The initial taste is mentholated, spicy (curry, cardamom, cinnamon), earthy (ginger), and liqueur-like (warm cane sugar). Mid-palate notes of vanilla pods and dark chocolate chips create a perfect harmony. A very pleasant, indulgent bitterness completes the experience.
Finish : Long and smooth. The initial taste is deliciously tannic and fibrous (sugar cane). Saline, the aftertaste is stewed (apple), saffron-like, and autumnal (moss). At the very end, flavors of artichoke heart soften the overall taste profile.
